Oral Cancer screening device

With the increased incidence of oral cancer, it is important to detect oral cancer at a stage where early intervention can be made for a more successful outcome.
The VELScope oral cancer screening device is a FDA approved instrument used as an adjunct to the detection of oral precancerous and cancerous lesions. It aids in detecting abnormalities that may not be visible to the naked eye. It is a quick, non invasive investigation that may help to save your life!
The VELScope technology stimulates epithelial cells and stroma by a blue light. It is the self-fluorescence of the tissues that allows the detection of changes in morphology and composition of the tissues in a non-invasive manner.
It is important to note that this additional examination serves as a very useful adjunct, but does not replace the oral examination and scalpel biopsy, which remains the gold standard of diagnosis of oral cancer.
We urge everyone to be wary of the many risk factors for oral cancer. These include, but are not limited to:
-Frequent use of tobacco products: cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco
-Excessive consumption of alcohol
-Genetic predisposition: a family history of oral cancer or any type of cancer
-Excessive exposure to the sun
-HPV infection of the mouth and throat
